We’re just south of Perry, GA at Camp John Hope, attending Camp Big Heart, an incredible experience for children and adults who face cognitive challenges.
I’ve been contributing to this event for forty years! I’ve kept this in my life as a way to contribute and stay connected to the roots, stories, and people that brought me to new moments.
There have been several locations, many different stages, and countless campers. And you know the one thing that never changes is the way it makes you feel. Because this place is just so full of heart. So full of love.
I started coming to Camp Big Heart as a high school kid, then a college student, a young adult, a married husband, and then a father of young kids who got bigger and continued to attend with me, making meaningful memories. You know those kids are now adults, living in different states, and yet we all connect through these “lifelines” of memories and work that really matters.
I think God puts certain people or organizations in our lives at pivotal moments, and these are signals for us to connect and engage with that group or person – maybe in one instance or perhaps over the course of an entire lifetime. Because we can’t change the whole world, but you can make an incredible difference to your world.
So, what’s your Camp Big Heart? What special need or organization speaks to you? You don’t have to put on a show. You just have to show up, bringing all of you: your gifts, your talents, your heart.
