How do you impact the people you know and reach? And what influences are you inviting? From Scottsdale, let’s bring intention to influence.
I’m here for the National Speakers Association annual conference, also known as “Influence.” Over three decades, this organization and community has benefitted my career and my life. I came in as a wide eyed newbie, have transformed my skills, business, and reputation, and served at nearly every level, including as President of NSA. It’s changed me personally, professionally, and profoundly, while connecting our family to some of our closest, most inspiring friends.
You see, influence isn’t optional. But, for you, is it intentional? If not, you’re missing an essential accelerator of growth and multiplier of your impact. You see, influence goes both ways.
First, what impression or effect do you impart upon others? You don’t have to be exceptional or significant to be of significant or exceptional influence. But it does take intention. Can people count on you? Are you committed to improvement? The consistency of showing up and striving to do better conveys sizable influence.
And secondly, what influences do you invite? Who do you hang out with in personal or professional settings? Do you attend events that stretch and challenge you? I always leave here thinking, “Wow, I have so much more to learn and do.”
If you don’t craft your outbound influence, and curate your inbound influences, they default downward: To however you’re feeling or whatever you’re thinking at the moment; to the distractions around you; or random people, events, and culture. We can do better than that.
Let’s get intentional. Commit to influence with intention, and invite the influences that keep you coming back for more. Until next week, stay Off Balance On Purpose.
