Do you want to be personally fulfilled and professionally successful? I think you can have both, but that requires a bias for action and an understanding of the important distinctions between opportunities, improvements, and accomplishments. Let’s get into that, from Boynton Beach, Florida.

Improvements happen within you.
Accomplishments lay out ahead of you and must be pursued.
Improvement is a constant, lifelong process that involves building discipline, skills, and an aspect of your character that serves as self-observant coach. Both loving and critical, you celebrate breakthroughs while pushing for better. How, specifically, are you improving right now? And what upgrades in skill or understanding would make the biggest impact?
The Roman philosopher Seneca famously said “Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity.” As we improve, we should expect better opportunities, and seize them. Many will be incidental. Some may be life changing. And, you can’t always tell the difference.
But don’t confuse luck with achievement. Opportunities are tests to see if you’re serious and ready. Accomplishments take time, consistency, and deliberate intent. That’s how we reach professional goals and beyond them to perhaps even greater accomplishments: a respected reputation, loving, close family and friends, good health, and a strong spiritual center.
So keep improving. Expect and seize opportunities. But don’t bet your future on being invited to your calling. Pursue what most matters with excitement and consistent action, and you’ll be amazed what you accomplish in time. Until next week, stay Off Balance On Purpose.
