Do you ever feel that you’ve lost some of the meaning of your work or your life? We’re in Orlando, rekindling purpose.
I’m here attending the Thrive conference by the National Speakers Association. I love this organization. I’ve been a member over 30 years, serving on the board for 10 of those, including as President. I know this business and I have enjoyed great success in it. So why do I still invest the time and the money to come?
Of course there’s always more to learn. New strategies, techniques, and technology, as well as reminders of things I know but could be doing more of, or doing better.
And the community is extraordinary. Some of my best friends and the most interesting characters you’d want to meet, all eager to share what they’re learning and accomplishing in the world.
But if I’m honest, a big part of the reason I’m here is to recapture my passion and rekindle my sense of purpose. After years in any profession, including this one, you can become jaded or complacent, losing the thread of exactly why it matters and what I’m pursuing. Improving on stage? Business growth? Greater impact? All of the above!
Don’t get me wrong. I love what I do and have been blessed to work with and learn from amazing people and teams around the world. When I’m on stage speaking, I know I’m doing what I was meant to do, teaching and inspiring others. But this work can also be isolating and exhausting.
So, that’s why I’m here and mentoring a first time attendee. Through the eyes of others I can recapture my sense of wonder and possibility. I absorb the energy of colleagues and friends and I leave inspired, challenged, and better equipped to serve my clients and audiences.
Purpose is a lifelong pursuit as it reveals new layers and pathways. So we need a way to relight the spark and throw more fuel on the fire. Identify yours, and go there often. Until next week, stay Off Balance On Purpose.
