      Staying Power

In a world that expects immediate answers and rapid results, it’s good to remember lasting success is still the long game. So, from Mobile, Alabama, let’s strengthen your staying power.

      READ THE TRANSCRIPT.

Staying power is a combination of tenacity and curiosity. Time becomes your ally when you commit to growth, and then build the strength and discipline to just keep showing up regardless of short term results.

A big part of this is not over thinking it. Make a clear, purposeful decision once, instead of renegotiating depending on how you’re feeling, if you have time, or day-to-day circumstances (which inevitability means you’ll quit on the day you’re especially tired, tempted, or bored.)

I’ve noticed several areas in my life where just by continuing to show up, it doesn’t take long to progress from being the “new guy” to one of the few who remain…

Playing in our church praise band for 12 years.
Serving my professional association for 30.
Progressing in my career, fitness, skills, and hobbies.
And most importantly, to my chosen standards and values, regardless of what others choose to do.

Experience accumulates, then multiples, if you just stay in the game.
The awkward and clumsy soon becomes familiar and practiced.
      Relationships deepen. Reputation grows.
Progress accrues when you refuse to retreat.

Everything, including life, eventually runs its course, but the course is likely longer than you think. So don’t give up or walk away when there’s still much to discover. The best lessons and rarest gifts are only revealed in time. Until next week stay Off Balance On Purpose.
