We’ve been conditioned to see “joy” as a future goal or a product of more ideal circumstances. But what if it’s readily accessible and the ideal mode for peak performance? Let’s get into joy.
We seek enjoyment. We experience happiness. But those conditions are largely seen as results of situations or outside effects. They can be elusive and fleeting, occasional interruptions to life’s difficulties.
Joy is far different. It’s a gift and a choice, unrelated to circumstances. While it seems contradictive, we can have great joy in great hardship or even unhappiness.
It’s also an amazing brain state. When you are “in joy,” you experience an increase in dopamine, endorphins, and serotonin and a decrease in cortisol. You gain cognitive function. Stress becomes calm. Resilience thrives.
But joyful people aren’t just more capable. They’re more fun to be around. Joyful people find each other and uplift others. So why doesn’t everyone choose joy? Maybe we don’t feel deserving or haven’t yet learned and practiced how.
1. Gratitude – When you choose thankfulness as your default, you invite joy into your presence.
2. Gamify – Even unpleasant tasks can be reframed as games, tests, or joyful challenge.
3. Glorify – When you celebrate the divine and most worthy, you align to receive the gift of joy.
So don’t make joy your summit. Make it your base camp. Your mode of being. Your go to choice for higher function. After all, you were designed to experience and embody joy. Until next week, stay Off Balance On Purpose.
