When is “being bothered” actually a good thing?
The word bother means to create a disturbance, mental or physical. Being bothered coveys annoyance. But when you bother to do anything, you disturb and agitate. You assert yourself with intention and action.
I’ve noticed the spread of a contagious sentiment: Why bother? Meaning… What’s the point? Makes no difference. Nothing lasts. Everything is different now. This isn’t just disheartening. For your dreams and purpose it can be deadly.
For those who would defeat and demoralize you, victory isn’t your failure, but your indifference. Sometimes our actions seem pointless or insufficient. That’s why we have principles. Disciplines. Faith. And why you must bother.
Bother to care – even when others don’t.
Bother to try – not once or twice, but repeatedly.
Bother to learn constantly, and learn deeper by teaching what you know.
Bother to help – even though you don’t think it’s enough.
If this message bothers you… good. Be bothered. Then bother to keep going. Keep doing. Keep trying.
Until next week, stay off balance on purpose.
