      You Break It, You Buy It!

      When does being careful or cautious hold back your next conquest? From Dallas, TX here’s why we should break it to buy it.
      As an energetic youth, when in upscale stores, I learned not to mess with the merchandise, minding the motto, “You break it. You buy it.” A useful lesson instilled – to be restrained when in an unfamiliar or high stakes environment.
      But how might that cautious mindset limit learning and opportunities?  Especially as we become more settled or successful, what are we unwilling to break in order to “buy,” or take ownership of advanced skills, better beliefs, or next level accomplishments?
      You see, ownership comes from undergoing some “breakage.” Taking or inflicting some damage. Making messes and mistakes. And yes, sometimes upsetting some of the people around you. If you’re facing a challenge or sensing a discontent with your current circumstances, what might you need to break in order to buy what’s next?
      1. Break it down. From complex challenges into simpler steps. Or possibly just buy into the first step, breaking inertia.
      2. Break old patterns and habits. What do you continue to say or do that no longer serves you? Buy the new habit of breaking old ones.
      3. Be willingly broken. We may fear taking damage to our image, ego, or reputation. But when you are willing to fail or reveal you need help, you humbly take ownership of a higher, truer path.
      If we want the breakthrough, we likely need to experience a breakdown. So give yourself a break. You’re exactly where you need to be. Now, break it. Then buy it to own new options, actions, and outcomes. Until next week, stay Off Balance On Purpose.
