What do you do when you don’t know what to do? Let’s answer that right now, right here, in Orlando.
Have you ever felt stuck or un-confident thinking, “I don’t know how to handle this?” Maybe it’s something you don’t know how to do, how to say, a problem you don’t know how to solve, a project you don’t know how to start, or a question you don’t know how to answer.
The next time you’re in that spot, or if you’re there now, employ this technique – so simple, and easy to remember, as it’s only four words: What if I did? That simple question will interrupt your pattern of self doubt, temporarily, and allow your mind to provide an answer.
For example: I don’t know “what to say?” (A question I literally wrestle with every week for you.) Okay. Well what if you did know what to say? What would it be? If you don’t fight it, and allow yourself to just go with the question, it disrupts your doubt and helps you get out of your own way.
I don’t know the answer. All right. Well what if you did? What might it be?
Or, I don’t know where to start. Fine. What if you did? What would you do first?
Or, I don’t know how to do that. OK. But what if you did? How would you handle it?
What comes next may not be the perfect answer. However, if you let your subconscious drive for just a few seconds, chances are it will give you something that works well enough to provide momentum, or possibly a breakthrough.
You know more than you think you do. So MOVE in the direction of your confidence, your competence, and your accomplishment. And until next week, my friend, stay Off Balance On Purpose.
