In a chaotic and unpredictable world, you can easily get crushed by what you don’t see coming. This week’s video will help you find more stability, freedom, and protection in your personal and professional life.
In a chaotic and unpredictable world, we can all use more protection. So, we’re keeping up this discipline in Rosemont, Illinois.
In a hot yoga class one recent morning the instructor asked us to set a word or intention for the practice. My first thought was “discipline” as I was tired and especially sore. It had been hard to get there that day. Then, as my wife and son had just started an interstate roadtrip, I thought the word “protection,” as I wanted to extend a prayerful projection for their safety.
Suddenly, the connection between those two words, discipline and protection, became apparent. Whether in a work out or in the workplace, with your soulmate or in your soul, a strong measure of protection comes from discipline. Need some examples?
The discipline of work ethic provides protection from financial hardship.
The discipline of ongoing learning provides protection from ignorance and irrelevance.
The discipline of exercise and good eating habits provide protection from illness and injury.
The disciplines of your ethics and values provide the protection of a solid reputation and from unscrupulous characters.
Spiritual disciplines provide protection from temptation and inevitable weak moments.
And disciplined attention to those you love provides protection from isolation, abandonment, or loneliness.
Of course, discipline cannot ensure you’re free from hardship. The chaos of uncertainty and randomness can, in many ways, at any time, come for any of us. The point is that discipline, while restricting you in some ways, liberates you in others. There’s a stability and freedom in knowing that you have a measure of protection, regardless of what comes your way. Until next week, stay Off Balance On Purpose.
