Your voice is an instrument of influence for all you say, script, or “sing!” This week’s video will help you own, hone, and amplify your voice so that it carries far and effectively.
I’m speaking quietly, atop a North Carolina mountain. It’s early, and I don’t want to disturb the neighbors – humans, or bears. Because the reality here and in life is especially as we elevate, our voices carry.
Voices carry. Specifically, your voice carries stories, strategies, and stances with structure and style. Exactly what, and how effectively is your voice carrying now?
Your voice is unique, like a fingerprint. And you get to choose how you use it. Will you teach or admonish? Encourage or despair? In difficult times there will be plenty of screamers. Thoughtful, calm, confident voices will be in high demand.
You see, the strength, truth, and usefulness of your voice is directly correlated to your leadership potential, professionally or in the community of your family and friends. How might you prepare so that your voice carries effectively?
First, use your voice. It is an instrument which requires care and practice. You have a written voice and a speaking voice. Develop both. Journal your thoughts to develop your inner dialogue. Let your keyboard or your pen reveal nuances of your thinking. And also, have conversations and accept invitations to share your voice with others.
Next, hone your voice. Just like any instrument, your voice can play a wide assortment of melodies and genres. What style and forms of expression bring you satisfaction? When you hone your resonant message, your audience will likely find you.
And lastly, align your voice. When your spoken and written self align with your life, choices, and actions, you plug in to an amplifier of authenticity. You’ll never be perfect. But if you’re increasingly honest, curious, and humble, your voice will, paradoxically, carry stronger and further.
